Barrier Breakers Unlimited Inc. – Policies & Expectations Packet

Welcome to Barrier Breakers Unlimited Inc. This document outlines the policies and expectations for all participants, families, and volunteers involved in our programs, including the LaunchPoint initiative and The Continuum enrichment center. These policies are designed to ensure a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment for all. Please read each section carefully.

1. Code of Conduct

BBU is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. Participants and families must treat all individuals with kindness, follow program rules, and avoid disruptive or discriminatory behavior.

Participants and families are expected to:

  • Treat all individuals with respect and kindness
  • Use inclusive and respectful language
  • Follow program rules and staff directions
  • Report concerns or conflicts to staff immediately
  • Avoid disruptive behavior that affects others’ ability to learn and grow

Unacceptable behaviors include:

  • Bullying, intimidation, or harassment
  • Aggressive physical or verbal behavior
  • Discrimination of any kind
  • Repeated refusal to follow staff instructions

Participants who violate the Code of Conduct will be guided through a restorative process. Repeated violations may result in temporary or permanent suspension from programs.

2. Attendance Policy

Participants should attend regularly and notify staff in advance of absences. After three unexcused absences, a review meeting may be scheduled.

BBU relies on consistency and routine to help participants thrive.

Expectations:

  • Participants are expected to attend all scheduled programming unless excused
  • Parents/guardians must call or email the program in advance if a participant will be absent
  • After 3 unexcused absences, BBU may schedule a review meeting with the family

Why it matters: Regular attendance ensures that participants don’t miss key skill-building moments, and it helps maintain structure and group harmony.

3. Participation Requirements

Participants are expected to engage in all activities to the best of their ability. Staff will provide support and accommodations as needed.

BBU programs are interactive and engaging. We expect participants to:

  • Arrive on time and be ready to engage
  • Participate to the best of their ability in all activities
  • Be respectful of peers’ learning styles and needs

Staff will provide accommodations and support as needed. If a participant is struggling, we will work with the family to create a personalized support plan.

4. Family & Guardian Involvement

Families are encouraged to participate in orientation, workshops, and support their child’s progress through ongoing communication and collaboration.

Family expectations:

  • Attend orientation and scheduled family check-ins
  • Notify staff of any significant changes or concerns at home
  • Support program goals by practicing life skills at home
  • Attend workshops or training sessions when available

Families are not alone—we are here to support you, too.

5. Confidentiality & Privacy

All personal and health-related information is kept confidential. We comply with FERPA and HIPAA standards.

BBU protects the privacy of every participant and family.

We commit to:

  • Safeguarding all personal, educational, and health-related information
